What are the types of training and support needed for those responsible for effective student support?
There are several types of training that can help or contribute to effective student support:

  • Orientation- Familiarity with the standard operating procedure of the College this will enable support staff the opportunity to provide assistance in a sound way.
  •  Shared information with support staff, example examination dates, where they exam will be sat, the times for the exam, when the semester ends and begins; this flow of information from the academic staff will assist support staff in providing effective support to inquiring teacher candidates.
  • Email reset training-Being able to more that take inquires but actually assist e.g. A teacher candidate forgets his or her password the request is made with the clerk who then forwards it to another clerk and the waiting game for the Teacher candidates begin. If clerk is able to make the change it allows the candidate to proceed with their online learning.

Hello Dawn,
I agree with you. Staff that support learners should have regular training that keep them updated on processes and procedures of the college and how services are interrelated, so that each department or unit is well aware of what the other does.
Good observation!
