This course is divided into five (5) topics: 

  1. Defining Online Assessment and Importance 
  2. Principles of Online Assessment 
  3. Methods of Online Assessment 
  4. Designing Your Assessment 
  5. Show and Tell 


Target Audience 

This is an introductory course designed for educators who are interested in designing or redesigning assessments for the online learning environment. 


Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Define online assessment. 
  2. Discuss the key considerations in designing and implementing online assessments
  3. Distinguish between the different types of assessments in an e-learning environment.
  4. Identify the principles of online assessments. 
  5. Explain the importance of online assessment. 
  6. Identify the best online assessment practices in an e-learning course. 
  7. Discuss online assessment practices that can be used to evaluate and measure learning outcomes within an online course.
  8. Develop and practice skills relevant to designing and conducting assessments.
  9. Select the different types of assessments that can be used for your online course.
  10. Justify the different types of assessments that can be used for your online course.
  11. Design or redesign and present one of your assessments for the online learning environment

Welcome to the course Designing and Developing Online Assessments. My Name is Freida Palma and I will be your facilitator for this course. I am currently the Director of Open and Distance Learning at the University of Belize and have been actively involved in E-Learning for over 10+ years. I am dedicated and committed to creating an E-Learning environment with a seamless end user experience that complements teaching and learning in Higher Education.
